How young can babies get their ears pierced?+
The Blomdahl system is safe for babies and children of all ages. Nurse Shara recommends waiting until after your infant's first round of vaccinations — typically around 2 months — so their immune system has a baseline level of protection. During your consultation, she will review your baby's age, health history, and readiness. There is no hard minimum age; the decision is made collaboratively with the parent.
What is the difference between medical ear piercing and a mall or gun piercing?+
Medical ear piercing uses single-use sterile needles or a clinical cartridge system (the Blomdahl system) and implant-quality, nickel-free jewelry. Spring-loaded piercing guns used at malls cannot be fully sterilized between clients, use blunt-force trauma to push jewelry through tissue, and typically use low-grade metals that cause allergic reactions and slower healing. The Blomdahl system was developed by dermatologists specifically to minimize tissue damage, infection risk, and allergy.
How much does in-home medical ear piercing cost in Los Angeles?+
The in-home visit is $225 all-inclusive — this covers the full appointment, single-use sterile instruments, your choice of Blomdahl medical-grade titanium or medical plastic earrings, a piercing certificate, written aftercare instructions, and aftercare wipes. Each additional guest during the same visit is a flat $175 per person. The Princess Party Package is available for groups of 4 or more at $175 per person, and includes a crown for the birthday child and a themed Certificate of Bravery for every guest.
Does it hurt? Will it hurt less than a mall piercing?+
Most children and parents report significantly less pain and anxiety with in-home medical piercing. The Blomdahl system uses a smooth, precision technique rather than the blunt-force impact of a spring gun. Children are also far more relaxed at home than in a public commercial setting — reduced anxiety is one of the most significant predictors of lower pain perception in young children.
What earrings are used for medical ear piercing?+
Nurse Shara uses Blomdahl medical-grade titanium and medical plastic earrings — the same materials used in surgical and dental implants. They are 100% nickel-free and hypoallergenic, clinically tested for biocompatibility, and safe for even the most sensitive skin, including newborns. Blomdahl jewelry comes pre-sterilized in sealed single-use packaging.
Do you travel outside Encino and the San Fernando Valley?+
Yes. Nurse Shara primarily serves the San Fernando Valley but travels anywhere in Los Angeles County — Beverly Hills, West Hollywood, Santa Monica, Burbank, Glendale, Pasadena, and beyond. A travel fee may apply for appointments outside the primary service area.
What days and hours are available?+
Nurse Shara is available Sunday through Friday. Submit a request with your preferred date and she will confirm availability within 24 hours. For group events or weekend requests, contact directly by phone or email.
Do you offer group or party ear piercing events?+
Yes. The Princess Party Package is available for groups of 4 or more at a flat $175 per person. It includes medical-grade piercing for every guest, a crown for the birthday child, and a themed Certificate of Bravery for each guest.
